Michael Giudici

michael_g.jpgMichel Giudici is a Director of Lester Franks and a Licensed Surveyor. He has worked across the Government Business Enterprise sector and the Private Sector for over 20 years.

He has accumulated expertise in complex cadastral and engineering projects and lectures the fourth year University of Tasmania surveying students in Cadastral Studies. Michael is the President of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI), a Fellow of the Institute, the Chair of the Tasmanian Spatial Information Council (TASSIC) and a member of the Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation Board. He is past Chair of the Tasmanian Region of the SSSI, past convener of the biennial international Spatial Sciences Conference held in Hobart in 2007, and recipient in 2007 of an award for Services to the Spatial Community presented at the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards.

Michael Graduated with a Batchelor of Surveying from the University of Tasmania in 1987, and was first registered by the Surveyors Board of Tasmania in 1990.

After graduation Michael worked in the private sector for 13 years before joining Forestry Tasmania in 1999 as Manager Surveying. At Forestry, Michael received invaluable management and leadership training, and progressed in 2004 to Manager Professional Services, responsible for Surveying, Engineering, Land Property, Plant and Buildings.

He developed expertise in the complexities of Crown land transactions, including the preparation of proclamations and dedications which required the briefing of the leaders of the parliamentary parties.

After seven years in the Government Business Enterprise environment, Michael has returned to the private sector in early 2007 where he currently manages the Hobart Division of Lester Franks.

Michael first joined the Institution of Surveyors in 1987 as a graduate, and became involved in the Tasmanian Division in the mid 1990s. In the late 90s, Michael was involved in the review of the Land Surveyors Act 1909, which was prompted by Federal Government Competition Policy imperatives, and upon assuming the role of President of the Division in 1999, was instrumental in the implementation of the report’s recommendations.

Michael contributed over several years to the refinement of the new Surveyors Act 2002 and the consequent Regulations. The new Act provided for the Institution of Surveyors to assume responsibility for the training and accreditation of Land Surveying Candidates, and Michael helped form and was one of the inaugural members of the new Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation Board.

During his time as ISA Divisional president, Michael embraced the concept of the SSI and led the formation of the inaugural regional committee which he chaired. Thus he was an inaugural SSI Director and Board member, a post he stepped down from in 2005 to direct his energies towards convening the SSC2007 held in Hobart.

In his spare (!) time Michael enjoys the company of his wife and family, and diving, surfing, gardening and reading.
