Renee Bartolo
Renee has worked in the spatial profession for the past 11 years in the academic, private industry, and more recently government sectors. She co-founded a radar application development company, GecOz, in 2001 and was Chair of the Board from 2002-2006. Renee is currently a Spatial Scientist with the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts's Supervising Scientist Division. As a spatial scientist, Renee has done time in the lowland swamps of southern New Guinea and the wetlands of the Top End. Renee completed her PhD is remote sensing methods and application in 2005.
Renee completed the Company Director’s Diploma in 2002 through the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She sat on the Board of the YWCA Darwin from 2004-2006 and specialised in the area of risk management.
Renee was involved in many levels of governance within the former SSI and was part of the SSI-ISA Merger Working group. She is a Fellow of the SSSI. In her 'spare' time, Renee is a keen soccer player.
Renee is currently focused on the Women in Spatial initiative, an area of the profession she is passionate about. Another area Renee is excited about, is communicating spatial to the wider community and putting spatial on the map as a profession. She is co-host and co-producer of the spatial podcast ‘Where It’s At’ and has represented the spatial perspective in many forms of media, including ABC’s Catapult and Ace Day Jobs.
In her 'spare' time Renee is an avid soccer player, playing whenever possible, and enjoys walking her weight challenged beagle and three-legged deaf aging cattle dog.
